Modification of genetic features, expression, can be effected by the maternal enviroment of the conceptus, fetus and infant. The maternal physiological, metabolic state via the placenta and arterial blood supply, provide the fetus with a spectrum of data for current and future survival.
The study of epigenetics arose in other species and perhaps Barker unwittingly revealed in his work, the epigenetic effects in homosapiens, when he described the ‘Fetal Deprivation Syndrome.’ Low birth weight children from low socio-economic origins, later died prematurely from cardiovascular disease. The hypothesis then was that maternal and social enviroments of deprivation ,were playing a part in later disease morbidity and mortality.
The same social demographic was extensively infected with Cytomegalovirus and committed for survival to the cheapest available food as processed carbohydrate, sugar, trans fats and increasing quantities of vegetable oils. The extent of atheroma and CHD in all the War autopsy studies amongst young men ,could be consistent with a concept extension, of the ‘Deprivation Syndrome’ that applied to the fetus, childhood and adulthood. The fighting soldier traditionally has been drawn from the lower socio-economic strata of society.
‘Woman is biologically precious’. Future populations depend on the biological integrity of women for survival and reproduction. That has been a veneered concept a long time for different reasons. We know now that chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, CHO Dyslipidemia, including small dense LDL, associated with excess, overdose of processed CHO, sucrose, fructose and vegetable oils, manifest as pathologies of OWOB, OAF, DM, MS and CHD.
These pathologies, diseases flourished through the ‘Period of Decadence’ since 1945 and are now epidemics. In the USA 65-75% of adults and 40% of children are OWOBS, so by definition ‘diseased’ . How many women now conceive ‘diseased’ . OWOB is a form of malnutrition also, so theoretically the fetal enviroment has to contend with, interpret, the potential impacts of mother’s pathologies epigenetically. Does the fetus interpret this data as the biological ‘norm’ for its existence after birth? Does it program accordingly or poorly to effect survival? Work in this area is giving us details, but we have enough now, to advise that the potential mother, mother has an obligation to avoid the pathologies described, avoid tobacco, alcohol, Marijuana, unprescribed drugs, supplements, work, nutrition and life practices we know little about.
‘Woman is precious’ in the affluent and non-affluent world where CHD and cancers of all kinds, are our leading killers. We have been lamentably late in recognising our trashing of the planet, pollution, global warming.Similarly, the trashing of all species, including ourselves. Are we going to behave to form, and ignore the enormity of this impending pandemic?
Patients tickle me when they tell me they have not heard of that, or unaware of this when physicians of my elk spent 15 years getting to learn that.So it is unlikely that the community would know that there has been suggestions in medicine, like we should from now on direct our efforts at the medical care of those under 18 years. Mortgage ourselves to pay for the ‘greys’ and ‘sundowner’s’, as their life expectancy and numbers fall. Planetary birth rate should be considered as important as climate change, while SOL is entirely revamped as a biological entity, to effect survival and reproduction, not finance, commerce and labour. I would include women of all ages and children. Human biologists for a long time have debated whether, we ‘need’ men as a species. Our science enables us now to by-pass them in reproduction.
